Isobutylene-based thermoplastic elastomer. This styrene-isobutylene-styrene (SIBS) block copolymer varies in molecular weight as well as in styrene content and its hardness depends upon the styrene content. Offers thermal stability, chemical stability and wheatherability combined with excellent elasticity, compression set and energy absorption capabilities. It has wholly saturated soft segment therefore it is highly stable against heat aging and offers better heat aging resistance than hydrogenated SBCs, such as SEBS and SEPS. Sibstar™ 102T also has low gas permeation characteristics than those of other SBCs and similar gas permeability to that of butyl rubber (IIR) as well as polyolefin (such as PP, PE). It performs well over a wider range of temperature in terms of vibration attenuation compared to other SBCs. It is more flexible than other SBCs and less- or non-oil plasticizer system can be designed from it. Used in hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives and sealants.
