Economics tells us that as rational decision makers we should choose the cheapest goods that meet our needs. And it certainly seems that adhesive producers would be most likely to switch raw materials suppliers on the basis of the cost of their product. That headline result from June’s SpecialChem4Adhesives Click’n’Vote poll is hardly surprising – but a closer inspection shows supplier choice can be more nuanced than broad generalizations suggest. Almost three-fifths of poll respondents chose one of two answers related to lower costs. Moving to a raw material that would lower overall adhesive cost, even if the raw material is more expensive, would be an economically rational choice.
