Applicable Base Polymer Properties

Poly bd® resin-based polyurethanes can be formulated to make sealants. Such systems may contain tackifying resins or asphalt. Since the glass transition temperature of the Poly bd® resin is very low, the tack is maintained at low temperatures, allowing contractors to work under winter-like weather conditions. As a thermoset system, it also maintains its integrity at high temperatures with excellent sag and chemical resistance.

Resulting Properties

The formulation above is for a 2K insulating glass sealant based on polybutadiene polyol. Using polybutadiene polyol will provide much better hydrolytic stability than other conventional polyols (e.g., polyester or polyether). The unique flexible, rubbery and hydrophobic structure of the Poly bd® resin provides properties that surpass both polyether and polyester urethane systems, especially for long-term properties. For IGU applications, Poly bd®-based PUs easily overcome a 10-year lifetime.
