Applicable Base Polymer Properties

Adhesives that are based on polyolefin resins are used mainly as hot melt adhesives in either block or film form. In film form, they provide excellent peel strength as a hot laminating adhesive for plastic films and metallic foils. Polyolefin adhesive films are also used in extrusion coating. In this application a ply of adhesive is extruded onto a structure to provide a heat sealing medium for later bonding. Affinity GA polyolefin elastomers have low density and low molecular weight combinations for polyolefins. They are designed to be used in hot melt and hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive formulations in a variety of applications.

Resulting Properties

Hot Melt Adhesive Based on Polyolefin Elastomer (Low Application Temperature) have good thermal stability (minimal color changes and reduced gel formation on standing in the melter). Melt viscosities can have a wide range due to molecular design and additives. The formulations above describe hot melt adhesives for general purpose bonding of packaging, non-woven hygienic products, and graphic arts. These formulations offer a wider service temperature range than EVA based hot melt adhesives. The source of the formulation is Dow Chemical.
