Applicable Base Polymer Properties

SEBS rubber is an elastomeric polymer that is used in a wide variety of construction adhesives and sealants. SEBS copolymer-based products can be applied in several different forms. It is used widely as a hot melt, solvent solution, preformed tape, or gasket, and as a gun-dispensable sealant. Kraton G1652 is a clear, linear triblock SEBS copolymer with a polystyrene content of 30%. It is also suitable as an ingredient in formulating compounds for footwear applications and may be used in formulating adhesives, sealants, and coatings.

Resulting Properties

A typical solvent borne SEBS compound has the composition as shown above. SEBS adhesives and sealants are known for excellent adhesion to most substrates and good water resistance. The polymeric compositions along with the other additives will affect both the application and the ultimate performance properties of the joint.

This formulation has the following characteristics:

  • Lower cost
  • Low temperature flexibility
  • Excellent durability and water resistance
  • Good package stability and adhesion
  • Will withstand cyclic joint movement
