Celanese Introduces Mowilith® LDM 1081 Emulsion for Paper Packaging and Converting Adhesives

Published on 2008-09-10. Author : SpecialChem

Frankfurt, Germany -- Celanese Emulsion Polymers introduced new technology for paper packaging and converting adhesives. Mowilith LDM 1081, a vinyl acetate/ethylene (VAE) emulsion, is specially designed for optimal adhesion to low surface energy substrates and offers excellent performance across the entire range of application methods. This new product is yet another technological breakthrough for Celanese and demonstrates Celanese Emulsions' commitment to developing superior customer solutions.

According to Lutz Montowski, marketing manager for adhesives in Europe, a unique combination of products and expertise is the key to Celanese's ability to deliver performance-based solutions to its customers. "Decades of experience in the adhesives industry, coupled with a broad product portfolio, put Celanese in an optimal position to meet the toughest demands of our customers. The technology in Mowilith LDM 1081 gives adhesives manufacturers the ability to formulate premium adhesives that are extremely versatile in their application," he said. "Mowilith LDM 1081 is another tool which we will use to improve the performance of the adhesives industry," he said.

Versatile VAE Binder

Mowilith LDM 1081 is a specially designed polymer with a low glass transition temperature (Tg) which offers excellent adhesion to low surface energy substrates such as UV lacquered boards and OPP folder foils, considered difficult to bond substrates. It also allows for its use in sterilizable adhesives due to excellent heat resistance. This high viscosity VAE emulsion offers wide versatility in its adjustment leading to a wide range of application methods from rollers and wheels to low pressure and D-valves. With extremely low dirt formation, aiding long machine time before failure (MBTF), and tailing, which helps to support high machine speed, it is especially favorable for use with spray nozzle applications, one of the cleanest application methods. According to Montowski, "Mowilith LDM 1081 combines both high-performance and value, most obvious through spray applications by low pressure and D-valves. Furthermore, the viscosity profile provides excellent cost-in-use benefits."
