MIDLAND, MICHIGAN, USA -- Dow Corning Corporation, a leading supplier of silicone products for the pressure sensitive industry, will offer a program entitled Cost Reduction Efforts for Pressure Sensitive Constructions as Related to Silicone Release at the AWA Global Release Liner Industry Conference 2005 to be held April 11-13 in Washington, DC, USA.

Lori Jones, an associate industry scientist for Dow Corning, will review new and potential developments in silicones and how those efforts relate to silicone release coatings in the areas of raw materials, processing, chemistry, materials flow and product quality. She is scheduled to present on Wednesday, April 13 at 9:15 a.m.

"Industry manufacturers, converters and suppliers know they need to reduce costs to remain competitive in the pressure sensitive market," Jones said. "But that doesn't mean innovation should take a back seat. On the contrary, innovation will be one of the key elements that will determine their success."

Jones, an experienced and familiar speaker on the pressure sensitive industry, has published several articles in trade journals and authored the chapter on silicone pressure sensitive adhesives in Satas' Handbook of Pressure Sensitive Adhesive Technology. She joined Dow Corning in 1976 where she has held a technical service and development role in pressure sensitive adhesives and release coatings since 1985. Jones has also worked in the areas of construction and industrial adhesives/sealants, reactive fluids and organofunctional silane coupling agents. She is a 1976 graduate of Bowling Green State University of Ohio with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.

Following the theme "Challenges and Opportunities," the conference program will cover three main subject areas:

  • Business and market challenges and opportunities;
  • Material and technology issues and trends;
  • The value chain and end users.

Special highlights will include the growth in film use, base paper supply constraints, new markets and growth through innovation.

Dow Corning provides performance-enhancing solutions to meet the diverse needs of more than 25,000 customers worldwide. Offering more than 7,000 products and services, Dow Corning is a global leader in silicon-based materials. The company is equally owned by The Dow Chemical Company and Corning Incorporated. More than half of Dow Corning's sales are outside the United States.
