Published on 2014-09-09. Author : SpecialChem

Horgen, Switzerland -- Dow Elastomers, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), will address key industry trends and hot melt adhesive (HMA) solutions during the FEICA 2014 European Adhesive & Sealant Conference and EXPO, taking place from 17-19 September in Berlin. Close to 500 delegates from across the globe are expected to attend this annual conference, the most important event in the European adhesive and sealant industry calendar.

As the world's largest producer of polyolefin elastomers with more than 40 years of industry experience and expertise, Dow Elastomers has global capabilities, a broad product portfolio along with extensive market expertise and is the only producer with world-scale trains on three continents. Working closely with customers to discuss their specific challenges and develop solutions, Dow Elastomers can help them meet the needs of the rapidly growing adhesives industry for a range of hot melt adhesive applications including: packaging, diapers and feminine hygiene products as well as labels, book-binding and woodwork applications.

During FEICA 2014, Dow Elastomers will present two papers:

  • "Food-safe packaging hot melt adhesives – how end-user concerns drive change"
    Breakout session 8: Trends in Paper & Packaging, 19 September – 9:30 to 10:00

Karin Katzer, Global Strategic Marketing Manager Adhesives, Dow Elastomers, will be joined by value chain partners Michaela Hofbauer, Global Market Leader Adhesives, Eastman Chemical B.V. and Katharina von Dufving, Marketing & Sales Manager Europe Adhesives & Polymers, Sasol Performance Chemicals for the joint presentation.

As global suppliers to the HMA industry, Dow, Eastman and Sasol are interested in understanding the motivation behind consumer behaviour, then working together to allow that knowledge to drive the development of solutions and technologies designed to meet the market’s needs for both performance and safety. The three companies will also demonstrate how frank and open communication contributes to reinforcing awareness of food safety and to driving standards higher, helping HMA formulators to make safe raw material choices.

Dow, Eastman and Sasol are well established players in this market and bring many years of experience and expertise to developing products that meet market needs, and which are manufactured using clean product technologies and practices that comply with the FEICA GMP guidance.

  • "Polyolefin Elastomers Boost End Use Performance of Hot Melt Adhesives and Address Market Needs"
Breakout session 10: Hot Melt Formulations based on Metallocene Polymers; 19 September - 12:00 to 12:30

Burcak Conley, Associate TS&D Manager and Allan McLennaghan, Senior TS&D Specialist, both with Dow Elastomers, will present a paper demonstrating the significant advantages of polyolefin elastomers over traditional EVA-based hot melt adhesives. They will demonstrate how Dow’s solutions offering – which includes AFFINITY™ GA, INFUSE™, ENGAGE™ and VERSIFY™ - addresses the diverse performance needs of key HMA markets and helps to deliver sustainable benefits across the value chain.
