FEICA & EURADH Launches 2023 Awards for Innovative Adhesion ScienceFEICA, the Association of the European Adhesive and Sealant Industry, and EURADH (European Adhesion Societies) have announced the third edition of the Adhesion Innovation Award 2023.

The award focusses on sustainability, durability and industrial applications and expects to attract excellent young researchers and scientists across Europe.

Focus: Sustainability, Durability and Industrial Applications

The joint EURADH (common conference of the European adhesion societies) and FEICA Award for Innovative Adhesion Science is a biannual event created to stimulate the interactions between industrial and scientific activities. It is also a great opportunity for both EURADH and FEICA to raise awareness of the outstanding innovations in our sector, which contribute significantly towards a circular economy and the European economy. This year‘s focus is on sustainability, durability and industrial applications, among all other aspects of adhesive bonding and adhesion.

Applications are invited from young researchers and scientists working in adhesion science who have published outstanding work.

FEICA continues to support the adhesives and sealants industry by promoting and encouraging more and more innovations in adhesion. Our industry offers stimulating careers and is of great importance to the circular economy. Adhesives and sealants typically constitute only a small percentage of the final product they are incorporated into, but they can play a significant role in enabling the sustainability benefits of the product. I look forward to seeing this year’s entries,” said Kristel Ons, FEICA’s Secretary General.

Opportunity for Young Researchers

Andreas Hartwig, Chair of EURADH & WCARP 2023, Chair of the Jury, added “we are very proud to support the adhesion industry in every way. This Award is a great opportunity for young researchers to showcase how exciting and innovative the adhesives industry is.

The prize is funded by FEICA. It will be awarded to the winner at EURADH in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, and a certificate will be presented at FEICA 2023, which will take place in Tarragona, Spain. Details on the prize, evaluation criteria, and how to submit entries, are available on the award website.

The first EURADH/FEICA Adhesion Innovation Award was won in 2018 by Dr Rene Hensel for his paper on ‘Composite pillars with a tunable interface for adhesion to rough substrates’. The second Award was won in 2020 by Dr Elisa Arikan for her paper ‘Structural adhesive bonding of polymers - Surface characteristics and adhesion mechanism’.

Dr Arikan presented her research at the 2022 FEICA Conference and EXPO, which took place in Hamburg, Germany, from 14 to 16 September 2022. The 2022 edition of the award was postponed to 2023 due to the COVID.

The EURADH adhesion societies consist of DECHEMA (Germany), Société Française du Vide (France), De bond voor materialenkennis (The Netherlands), Associação Portuguesa de Adesão e Adesivos (Portugal), Grupo Español de Adhesion y Adhesivos (Spain) and the Society for Adhesion and Adhesives (UK).
