Published on 2011-02-22. Author : SpecialChem

KINGSPORT, TENN. -- Dr. Martin Stimpson, Eastman Chemical Company, presented the paper Formulating non-phthalate plasticizers for specialty plastisol applications, during Session 4 - Plasticizers during the PVC Formulation Conference at the Maritim Hotel, Düsseldorf, Germany.

Stimpson's presentation focused on recent regulatory legislation, including REACH, impacting the use of ortho-phthalate plasticizers. Such regulations has resulted in the needs of formulators to investigate the use of alternative non-phthalate plasticizers for a wide variety of applications. Specifically, Stimpson's presentation examined the formulation of plastisols using terephthalates (non-phthalates), benzoate plasticizers, and blends of the two. He also discussed processing parameters and expected final performance properties as well as anticipated future regulatory trends in the industry.
