HERMA Partially Commissions Coatings Plant for Adhesive ProductionHERMA has announced partial commissioning of the 90-million-euro coating plant for production of adhesive materials in response to COVID-19 global pandemic. Plant #2 will increase HERMA’s annual self-adhesive material capacity by 50 percent, to 1.2 billion square meters.

The new adhesive plant has enabled the company to distribute production orders among its various facilities and thus afford its employees even better protection.

Increased Demand for Adhesive Materials Due to COVID-19

The decision to start up the facility was prompted to implement better distancing between individual production teams. Majority of the orders are supported by the increased demand for adhesive materials that are applied to shipping labels or product labels for medicines, disinfectants and other medical products.

The technical resources of the new facility pave the way for producing innovative adhesive materials used for liner dispensed shipping labels and film labels produced from recovered raw materials.

Producing Innovative Adhesive Materials Using Latest Technology

The new plant is efficient due to its automated guided vehicles (AGV), the latest packing robots, and a pioneering energy policy. HERMA can reduce the primary energy consumption in the new facility with the combined cooling, heat and power plant. The power plant enables the company to generate up to one-quarter of the electricity that the plant consumes.

The AGV are being deployed in the plant to carry paper, film or coated label stock rolls. The driverless fleet consists of ten vehicles which, when loaded, are roughly the size of a large commercial van. The two robots in the new plant #2 handles five jobs at a time, making production flexible and faster.
