HERMA Unveils Overlaminating Film for Paper Labels

Published on 2014-05-30. Author : SpecialChem

HERMA's new overlaminating film now makes it possible to manufacture paper labels that can be widely used even in harsh and critical environments. This product innovation from HERMA's Self-adhesive Materials division comprises of a self-wound self-adhesive film without liner, so no additional waste is produced during the conversion process. The roll simply feeds in from a spare unwind mandrel and overlaminates the printed media prior to die cutting. No messy adhesive or wastepack liner recovery is required saving time and money. This provides the labels with optimum protection against both mechanical stresses, such as that caused by friction, as well as moisture, greases and oils. Consequently, the overlaminating film with its permanent acrylate adhesive becomes an extremely attractive and economical alternative to high-cost special materials in many cases.

Ready to use straight away

Because the overlaminating film is ready to use straight away, it is also ideally suited to small orders, such as those executed on digital printers. In contrast to solutions with non-self-adhesive monofilms or UV protective varnish, label printers can do without the additional coating unit for adhesive or varnish. Moreover, overlaminating films also have the edge over protective varnish as they are significantly more reliable. The overlaminating film is available in both "gloss clear" and "matt clear" along with gloss polyester options.

Thermal transfer printable

Additionally, the overlaminating film can do more than "just" protect. Despite the presence of the film, labels can still be printed with thermal transfer technology; the matt grade can even be marked with ball-point pen. The film also ensures improved label strength when dispensing. The increased stiffness is also beneficial for resealable labels in particular. The overlaminating film also has appearance benefits, thanks to the film, the colours of the labels appear much more vivid.
