NACD Encourages U.S. Senate to Approve TSCA Reform Law

National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) President Eric R. Byer issued the following statement on the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage of H.R. 2576, the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act that would reform the 40-year-old Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).

“As TSCA reform legislation moves onto the U.S. Senate for final approval, NACD praises House lawmakers for their commitment to making much-needed improvements to our nation’s chemical management system. Industry stakeholders are now one step away from putting a bill on the President’s desk that would overhaul how we assess and manage chemicals in the marketplace. We strongly encourage the Senate to approve H.R. 2576 without delay and send the bill to the President for his signature.

“After 40 years of operating under an outdated law and more than 10 years of attempts at reform, industry stakeholders agree that TSCA is broken. We are pleased to see that lawmakers in both parties have come together to create a more cohesive federal system for regulating chemicals in the marketplace and provide greater certainty for industry and regulators alike.

“NACD thanks House leadership and especially Congressmen Upton, Pallone, and Shimkus for fostering the bipartisan support necessary to shepherd the bill through the House.”
