BRIDGEWATER N.J. -- National Adhesives, a unit of National Starch and Chemical Company, will boost its supply of transdermal-grade adhesives to the global market with a new manufacturing facility in Salisbury, North Carolina. The new facility will be built alongside the existing Salisbury manufacturing site. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2005, with production beginning in 2006.

National's multimillion-dollar investment in the new facility will accelerate the company's efforts to supply pressure sensitive solution acrylic and solution rubber adhesives used in transdermal drug delivery systems. The facility will provide National flexibility to support the market's changing demands and better position the company to offer its customers the innovative products they need in an increasingly competitive market place.

"This is the single largest investment in solution adhesive technology by any adhesive company in recent history. It reflects the commitment of National Adhesives to remain the long-term leader in solution adhesives for the transdermal market," said Mike Trisch, Business Manager for National's Transdermal Adhesives products.

National Adhesives is a unit of National Starch and Chemical Company, which had worldwide sales of $3.3 billion in 2004. National Adhesives offers liquid emulsion, solvent-borne solution and hot melt adhesives to customers worldwide. National Adhesives' products are based on polyurethane, acrylic, rubber, ethylene vinyl acetate, epoxy, polyvinyl acetate and starch and dextrin chemistries. National Starch and Chemical Company is headquartered in Bridgewater, N.J., and is a member of the ICI Group.
