Applicable Base Polymer Properties

Aerafin 180 resin is a saturated, low molecular weight, propylene-based olefin polymer with good low temperature properties for adhesion in freezing conditions and compatibility with a wide range of waxes and hydrocarbon tackifying resins.

Adhesives that are based on polyolefin resins are used mainly as hot melt adhesives in either block or film form. In film form, they provide excellent peel strength as a hot laminating adhesive for plastic films and metallic foils. Polyolefin adhesive films are also used in extrusion coating. In this application a ply of adhesive is extruded onto a structure to provide a heat-sealing medium for later bonding.

Resulting Properties

Polyolefin based hot melt adhesives have good thermal stability (minimal color changes and reduced gel formation). Melt viscosities can have a wide range due to molecular design and additives. The formulations above describe a hot melt adhesive for general purpose bonding of packaging for cold applications. This formulation offers a wider service temperature range than EVA based hot melt adhesives. The adhesives are non-tack, clear, and have excellent room temperature flexibility.
