BRIDGE JU, a JTI on Biobased Industries to Receive Funding for Research & Innovation

Published on 2013-06-18. Author : SpecialChem

A few weeks before the Commission presents the proposals for the Public-Private Partnerships under Horizon 2020, the new Joint Technology Initiative on Biobased Industries keeps preparing the ground for developing its activities as of 2014. The Biobased and Renewable Industries for Development and Growth in Europe (BRIDGE JU) will receive a contribution of €1bn from Horizon 2020, according to the negotiation recently concluded with DG RTD. The remaining €2.8bn have been committed by the industry partners from different sectors related to the bioeconomy such as agro and chemical sectors, the paper industry, waste management, energy, logistics and more.

The new JTI will cooperate in research and innovation towards demonstration of new biobased value chains and products. The seven-year programme is formulated around five value chains defined in its Strategic Research Agenda: advanced transportation fuels, food ingredients and feed, chemicals, materials and energy. The final objective is to develop a flagship plant (first units operating at an economically viable scale) in each of these value chains.
